PHILLY PUNK ROCK SINCE 1980
ROB BIRCH- DRUMS ADAM BOMB AVERY- VOX/BASS RICHIE BIRCH- GUITAR
Decontrol was started by Adam Bomb Avery in 1979 as a two-man punk band who's sole mission was to cause havoc at local parties and gigs. Adam played a hybrid guitar/bass and the other guy just yelled a lot. They tried to be as offensive as possible as a reaction to the stupid time period they were trapped in. They played behind a plastic screen to deflect all the bottles and stuff thrown at them, which was a lot of stuff, and well-deserved!
In 1980, some actually talented musicians, Richie Birch (guitar) and Keeth (drums) joined with Adam to take Decontrol to the next level. They became very well known in the Philadelphia scene, playing many great gigs at places like the Punk Fests, Love Hall, and the East Side (and West Side) Clubs in Philly, along with numerous forays into AC, DC, and NYC.
They released their first LP "Songs from the Gut" in the early eighties, which was recorded at Samson Studios at 13th and Samson Streets, which also served as their hangout. They then made an EP featuring their spiced-up version of "Born to be Wild".
Their more elaborate second LP was recorded at Third Story Recording in West Philly, it's known as the "one with the spider webs on it". This record has Decontrol in it's most eclectic state, with a piano, flute, and a jackhammer making cameos within the sonic mayhem.
In the 2000s they recorded a bunch of new tunes at Sonic Studios and Third Story with Rob Birch on drums. These, and most of the previously mentioned releases where all squeezed onto their 33-song CD "Songs From the Gut- The Complete Collection", available at cdbaby.com and fine retailers here and there.
Decontrol still rages on as hard and furiously as ever. Now they find themselves in the position of appealing to not just old punks, but also the many kids who realize that old-school punk rock beats the crap out of the drivel that's now foisted upon them.
A new album with 14 hard hitting new songs is now out! See below!
NEW ALBUM NOW UNLEASHED!

The songs reboot Decontrol back into the Old School with hard hitting new songs that are timeless in their ferocity. The sound is big and bold as ever, and the songs tap the roots of outrage and rebellion just as much, if not more, as when Decontrol was founded. The album is available as a digital download or a limited run of vinyl lps on colored vinyl, each one a unique "bowling ball" color!
